OUR BEGINNINGS · CHENNAI, 1974

A small beginning. Five decades of experience.

SP Garments began in North Chennai in 1974, when Mr. K. Thiruvengadam established a garment unit with five tailors, making womenswear for domestic boutiques.

The move into exports in 1992 opened a new chapter. Over the years, repeat programmes for European and American retail labels brought experience with different fabrics, fits, size ranges and buyer requirements.

That experience also grew through SP Garments’ own looms division, where fabric production deepened the knowledge behind our garment making.

OUR OWN LOOMS DIVISION

Fabric knowledge, woven into our story.

SP Garments once operated a vertically integrated setup, producing fabrics in a range of blends and textures on automatic looms alongside garment manufacturing. As Managing Director of the looms division, Late Mr. T. Senthil Nathan brought deep technical knowledge of textiles and fabric development to the business.

Although the looms division no longer operates, its experience remains part of SPG. Our fabric team draws on that knowledge to develop suitable constructions, competitive fabric costs and shorter development lead times. Quality, timely delivery and reliability continue to guide our work.

What that means for a buyer today

Practical involvement in fabric development, backed by a deep understanding of construction and quality. We work through technically feasible yarn and blend combinations to achieve the required hand feel at a competitive cost, develop desklooms quickly and anticipate variations between desklooms and bulk fabric before the cloth is made into garments.
